Publication Ethics

El-Ubaid: Journal of Islamic Economic Studies is a scholarly journal that provides an open platform for researchers to disseminate research findings and academic studies in Islamic finance, classical and contemporary Islamic economic thought, zakat and waqf management, the halal industry, the Islamic digital economy, sharia-based entrepreneurship, and economic policies grounded in Islamic values. Articles are published in both Indonesian and English.

This publication ethics statement refers to Regulation of the Head of LIPI No. 5 of 2014 on the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication and is aligned with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Publication ethics constitute a set of norms that must be followed by all parties involved in journal publishing: authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers.

General Ethical Principles

  1. Morality: distinguishing proper from improper conduct in scholarly writing.
  2. Scientific integrity: upholding truth and avoiding data manipulation or misconduct.
  3. Neutrality: freedom from conflicts of interest in publication management.
  4. Fairness: proper attribution of authorship to contributors.
  5. Honesty: absence of duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All parties must disclose potential conflicts of interest. Unpublished materials in submitted manuscripts must not be used for personal research without the author’s written consent.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for:

  1. Establishing editorial policies, scope, and publication frequency.
  2. Ensuring a fair, objective, and anonymous peer-review process.
  3. Maintaining confidentiality of manuscripts and reviews.
  4. Preventing conflicts of interest.
  5. Addressing ethical misconduct in accordance with COPE guidelines.
  6. Ensuring sustainability and quality of publication.
  7. Complying with legal, copyright, and licensing requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must:

  1. Evaluate manuscripts objectively based on scholarly merit.
  2. Maintain manuscript confidentiality.
  3. Avoid conflicts of interest.
  4. Provide constructive feedback to improve article quality.
  5. Issue corrections, clarifications, or retractions when necessary.
  6. Ensure manuscripts are free from ethical violations or harmful content.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are required to:

  1. Provide objective, unbiased, and scholarly assessments.
  2. Maintain manuscript confidentiality.
  3. Avoid conflicts of interest.
  4. Identify plagiarism or ethical concerns.
  5. Submit reviews in a timely manner.

Author Ethics

Authors must:

  1. Present original work free from fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.
  2. Properly cite all referenced sources.
  3. Avoid simultaneous or duplicate submission.
  4. Disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
  5. Ensure all listed authors made significant contributions.
  6. Cooperate in revisions, corrections, or retractions when necessary.
